COLLAGE AND MIXED MEDIA

During my years of traveling in the East, I was dazzled by the luminosity of gold and silver-embroidered fabrics. India and the Far East have profoundly influenced my art.

In replicating the effect of those luminous textures, I experimented with many different media, including paint, collage, weaving, screen printing, and even making my own papers.

The resulting labor-intensive works have an embroidered, tapestry-like appearance. I enjoyed creating a ‘chocolate box’ of eye candy, which enabled me to work on smaller sections that, like a quilt, became part of a larger piece. In these artworks, the canvas morphed into a plane of ‘windows’ or facets, inviting the viewer to explore various aspects of a subject, its structure, and nuances of colour and texture.
